8/20/2023 0 Comments Grocery outlet near me right nowThe announcement last year that Grocery Outlet was coming, coupled with the recent opening of the new Starbucks with a drive-thru, have helped bring some life back to the shopping center that had struggled to keep tenants since Ralphs closed. I was really inspired by that,” Ornelas said. Their recent post on the “La Quinta News” Facebook page, introducing themselves and announcing the store’s opening date drew 341 “likes” and 100 comments of people welcoming them. When Ralphs closed, it left a big void for cove residents. When deciding whether to open their store in the La Quinta Village shopping center, Ramirez and Ornelas said they spent a lot of time looking at the center, visiting other businesses and talking to people in the cove who let them know of the need for a grocery store. Many of the applicants are local and live in the La Quinta cove, they said. With a couple of positions left to fill, they said they expected to have everyone hired and in place by the end of this week. They are hiring 28 full- and part-time employees. They took to social media recently to introduce themselves to the La Quinta community, and announce some job fairs. “It doesn’t take very much to give back and it’s really amazing to be a part of that.” To now be able to give back to the community feels good, she said. “That was an experience where we both felt teary-eyed because we were on the receiving of (food banks) when we were younger, as first- and second-generation Americans,” Ornelas said. Ornelas and Ramirez already have reached out to work with a variety of nonprofits, including the Boys and Girls Club, a local animal shelter and FIND Food Bank. “Being a part of community events and meeting the community was the best,” Ramirez said. Ramirez started working in Beaumont around the holidays and learned early on that it was fun to be involved with the community. Grocery Outlet operators live in the communities they serve and are encouraged by the corporation to give back to local nonprofits and be part of local organizations – a doctrine Ornelas and Ramirez embrace happily. The inventory “is always changing, so you never know what you’re going to find” in addition to the staples, Ornelas and Ramirez said. “Being connected with the community … we’re able to bring in what the customers want what they’re asking for,” Ramirez said. The stores stock big-name brands at discounted prices. They make their own business decisions, hire and manage their own employees, order most of the store’s merchandise and make all operating decisions to best serve the needs of their customers. Making a community connectionĮach Grocery Outlet Bargain Market is run by independent operators who live in the communities their stores serve. It will be the newest of five locally, with stores already open in Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City and Bermuda Dunes. La Quinta’s will be one of more than 400 Grocery Outlets in six states. “Honestly, the first week I started working there, I fell in love,” said Ramirez, 22. Ramirez applied and went to work for a store in Beaumont, starting as a cashier and working her way up to front-end lead. With that, she suggested her sister might also want to consider a job with Grocery Outlet. I wanted to get into the whole own your own business, something I knew that Grocery Outlet offered,” said Ornelas, 27. Her goal soon changed to wanting to own a Grocery Outlet and she took a management position at a store in Rialto to gain more experience. “Little by little, I wanted to get up to a manager position,” she said, and began moving around, working in various departments and in different roles. Ornelas started with Grocery Outlet at a store in east Hemet seven years ago as a cashier. Grocery Outlet is taking over half of the 41,240-square-foot anchor building that was home to Ralphs until it closed in July 2014. The new store employs nearly 30 full and part-time employees.Ī tenant for the other half of the building, in the shopping center on Washington Street at Calle Tampico, has not been announced. “For the most part, we’re just ready to open,” Ornelas said, standing with her sister in front of the store for an interview on Oct. Renovation of the store took nearly a year. It is a first-time business venture for the owners, sisters Mayra Ornelas and Ruby Ramirez, who grew up in Hemet and moved to the La Quinta cove as construction got underway at the Grocery Outlet. A long-awaited grocery store in La Quinta's cove area has arrived with Thursday's grand opening of the new Grocery Outlet in a long-vacant anchor spot at the Village shopping center.
